United States, Canada To Step Up Enforcement Against False Bamboo Fiber Labeling
The United States and Canada to step up enforcement against falsely referred to as bamboo fiber textiles and clothing.
The Federal Trade Commission announced on February 3, had sent a warning letter to 78 retailers, said sales of label claims based on bamboo (bamboo) production, but in fact to rayon (rayon) manufacturing textiles and clothing, may have violated the law .
Rayon is a man-made fiber produced from plant cellulose, its chemical process emit harmful gases and air pollution. Any plants or trees, including bamboo, can be a source of cellulose, but the manufactured fibers are rayon. Directly to the bamboo fiber textile or clothing, can be marked as bamboo manufacturing; products if in order to chemically manufacture bamboo fiber production process, it must be marked as to rayon manufacturing.
The Canadian Competition Bureau in January 27 announced that it has under the “Textile Labeling and Advertising Regulations,” to take action to ensure that Canadian sales of rayon textiles and clothing, will not be marked as bamboo production. The bureau said more than 450,000 pieces of textiles and clothing have been re-label in Canada, more than 250 websites have been corrected information. Canadian officers found a total of 27 goods labels are not accurate dealers, as well as 94 goods labels are inaccurate or misleading advertising content online store. Bureau said that, at present there is no any natural bamboo fiber textile products sold in Canada.
Competition Bureau has contacted a number of retailers, importers, producers and processing companies and so on, that was concerned about the number of categories of textile products and advertising. Canadian authorities pointed out that consumers may be due to that the bamboo fibers are eco-friendly or health characteristics, and thus pay higher prices to buy marked as bamboo fiber products.
Federal Trade Commission and the Canadian Competition Bureau has issued guidelines to help companies honest and lawful manner in order to sell marked as bamboo fiber textiles and clothing.
